Ok, now THIS is what I’m talking about. When I say that this property is what dreams are made of - for me at least - I’m NOT kidding.  From the classic stone exterior to the exposed wooden beams, warm saltillo tile flooring, and shuttered windows - all within a stone’s throw to the rest of this charming Tuscan village - this is exactly how I imagine my Italian escape to be. The home even has a name - Il Nido d’Amore (which means The Love Nest) for goodness sake.

Hey there! My name is Shannon, the Founder of Bargain Homes Abroad. I'm obsessed with finding properties with the perfect blend of old world charm + affordability. For a little backstory, picture this: Borgo Sogna, a hamlet straight out of a fairytale with an old church and fortress, once abandoned and now turned into a little piece of paradise. Thanks to a visionary architect about 30 years ago, this 12th-century treasure got a second lease on life, blending history with a modern vibe that enhanced its appeal.  With views of the red-tiled roofs of the rest of the village and out past the 12 hectares of olive groves beyond, this place has me daydreaming about what Italian life would be like around every corner.

But even with those views, the real star of the show is the property itself.  Built directly into the hillside, this adorable home has all the bells and whistles that make it absolute perfection. Spread across a single floor with about 44m2 of livable space, this place has one bedroom, one bathroom, and all the charm you can handle.

When you step through the front door, you’re greeted by the open concept kitchen/dining/sitting room combo, which makes the space feel larger than it is. The ceilings in the living space are high enough to make the room feel quite large, and the double-glazed and shuttered windows let in that warm Tuscan sunshine.

The kitchen has neutral wooden cabinets that provide ample storage space, and the 'pietra serena' countertops are a lovely addition as well.

Stepping down into the lower bedroom alcove, you are also treated to another unique architectural delight - the stone of the hillside preserved behind glass, bringing the outside in and making the home feel at one with the natural landscape beyond. This element alone makes the space feel cozy and interesting, all at the same time. The adjacent bathroom also has all the comforts of a modern space, with full a basin sink, water closet and full shower.

When you head outside, more awaits to delight you. Stone stairs lead you to an inviting nook big enough for a cute table for two - the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee while you gaze out over the Tuscan hillsides in your own backyard..

When it comes to additional amenities, Borgo Sogna does not disappoint. Located just 420 meters above sea level, this place is a fairytale haven for those who desire a mix of enticing amenities with their Italian escape. Twenty apartments within the hamlet, including Il Nido d’Amore, share a tennis court, sauna, and a swimming pool.  There is also shared laundry, a BBQ and a bread oven on the grounds. You can easily while away the days here without the need to seek out entertainment. You're also just a short drive away from the towns of Ambra and Bucine, so you're never too far from local shopping, dining, traditional markets and of course, some gelato.
