The Area

The charming hamlet of Collodi cascades down its hillside like a stone stream. It is administratively part of Pescia, near Pistoia. This medieval village dates back to the twelfth century when the defensive castle was built. Collodi is amazingly well preserved and a charming example of medieval architecture and atmosphere. Collodi is anchored by its castle known as the Rocca Antica on top and the aristocratic Villa Garzoni below. The fortress castle was an important one because of its location on the Lucca-Florentine border.

Collodi is mostly recognized thanks to its famous son, Carlo Lorenzini, who took the town's name as his own for his pen name. Carlo Collodi wrote many books but is best known as the author of Pinocchio. In homage, the town has a whimsical place to honor their author, Pinocchio Park. Kids big and small will enjoy the games, toys, carousel, and playful sculptures in this fairytale land. It's a delightful spot where kids can learn while playing.

Don't miss the noble residence Villa Garzoni, built in the 1700s, and its gorgeous gardens. Formally landscaped and tended, there are fountains and sculptures among the carefully designed plants and flowers. Its a favorite spot for local weddings. An exotic addition to the garden is the Butterfly House, which can't help but make you smile. The Romanesque church of San Bartolomeo is worth a visit, as well. (Source: summerinitaly.com)

From the Listing Agent:

"The Unexpected House

is hidden in the inner courtyard of an old sixteenth century building, a short walk from the historic Villa Garzoni. Quiet and exposed to the morning sun, The Unexpected House was born, after a profound renovation, in the rooms that were of the old dry cleaner of the village of which some memories are still visible.

It is a private, hospitable and comfortable home. It will give you everything you need to enjoy your corner of Tuscany in the best way: a comfortable living area, a fully equipped built-in kitchen and a large study overlooking the portico and the garden for your home working. The sleeping area, reached by a beautiful and comfortable wooden staircase, is on the upper floor and offers two large double bedrooms, with access to the terrace, and a single bedroom. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor.

Of course, your home in Tuscany needs an outdoor space where you can relax or plan your next-day excursion with your friends. You can do it among the plants of the pretty garden, in the shade of the porch or seated on the large terrace.

The Unexpected House is ready to be inhabited. The ancient elements that have been preserved give the house the taste of the past you are looking for."
